It was spirit that led a group of employees to form Capital Trail Auto Workers FCU in 1961. Their goal was to establish a cooperative that would give hardworking Americans a fair deal on financial services, as our Credit Union flourished, we changed the name to GEMCO Employees FCU and by the end of the 20th century we were serving 6,000 members with more than $45 million in assets.

 

By spreading our wings to take on new challenges, we've been able to expand our services to include everything from savings accounts to our Freedom Teller telephone services and on line banking services.

 

On October 1, 2002 we changed our name to Delaware First Federal Credit Union and introduced our new logo - a soaring eagle. It's fitting that a credit union that never ceases to reach new heights should have an eagle as its logo;  and Delaware First sums up our desire to provide first rate services at the best rate for the lowest cost to more of our neighbors, to help them take part in the American dream. They, in turn, will continue to strengthen our credit union and allow us to keep looking for new products and services that will help make all of our members' financial goals a reality.

 

In September 2003, we opened our doors to all those who live, work, worship or attend school in New Castle County, Delaware.  With all the changes throughout the years, one thing that won't change is our philosophy, that our members come first.  Every decision we make is made with our members in mind.  It's been the key to our success for the past 45 years and will ensure our continued growth during the next 45 years.

As we spread our wings and seek to reach new heights,  know that we're carrying on in the same spirit that has allowed our credit union to flourish. "Sharing the American Dream" isn't just our slogan; it's our mission - one that guides us as we take on new challenges in the 21st century. We know that you share that vision.
